Technical Details We use a series of EOC-2611 Outdoor Wireless Units (the older installations use NOC-3220 units which have been discontinued) from www.solwise.co.uk which can be set up either as an Access Point (AP) or Client. A wireless link is formed between an AP and a Client. An AP can connect to several Clients, but a Client can only connect to one AP. The wireless works on the 802.11g standard, which is the same as indoor wireless networks used in many organisations and increasingly in homes. The wireless units are placed outside the property and connected to a router inside by a single wire which carries both power and data. The router then enables multiple computers to connect to the internet, either with wireless or cable connections. Continuity of service The service relies on the cooperation of a number of households and some things are beyond our control, so there may be occasional breaks in the service. We aim to minimise these, but continuous service is not guaranteed. In order to maintain an acceptable service to the majority of users, we reserve the right to reduce the service to any household whose excessive use is causing problems to the network as a whole.
